The Tour De France, The Worlds Biggest Road Bike Race

road bikes

The Tour de France is the BIG one; it’s the World cup and the Olympics all in one. It has it all, the high mountains, the wind swept northern planes and the heat of the south. It also has the world’s media, all the top teams and riders and millions of cycling mad fans watching. The other “Grand Tours” of Italy and Spain are as exciting, sometimes more so, but they don’t have the thing the Tour has, that unique Tour ness, that unique French ness.

How it started.

It all started in 1903, when the French daily paper, L’Auto wanted to sell more than its competitor, Le Vélo, who at that time was the only paper reporting on cycle racing. It was suggested to the papers director, Henri Desgrange that they should organise a bike race all round France. The first race was 2,428 kilometres split into six stages and was run off at 25.29 kilometres per hour and out of the 60 starters 21 finished and the race was lead from start to finish by Maurice Garin.

The Heroes.

Over the years there has been a lot of heroes in the Tour de France, you could say all the riders are heroes, to win the race once is hard, but to win it five times is phenomenal. Only five men have done this, and one of these has won it seven times. French rider Jacques Anquetil was the first to win the race five times, Eddy Merckx, Bernard Hinault and then Spaniard Miguel Indurain all equalled him. Then the American, Lance Armstrong started to win in 1999 and didn’t stop until he had won it a record seven times in a row. This is all the more amazing as he is a cancer survivor and was given a 50/50 chance of life; he beat the cancer and went on to beat all comers in the Tour de France.

The course.

The race starts in a different town every year and every other year it starts outside France, the choice of stage towns is a combination of money and sporting considerations, the towns will pay for a start or a finish, but they need to be near a mountain or a cobbled road or be near other town who want to host the Tour. The Towns pay to be the centre of interest for a day, the Tour also brings in a lot of money in tourism and the Towns collect much more than they pay and the world will remember the name of the Town, for at least a day.

The riders.

All the best riders want to win the Tour de France, but they cant, from the 200 or so starters there is a possible five or six riders who can win, the rest are either helping their team leaders or sprint or mountain specialists who want to win stages or points or mountain jerseys, this keeps the race active and interesting from beginning to end.

The BIG Tour.

The Tour is the biggest, but that has its problems, some Towns are not big enough, hotels etc., the television needs more space, the journalists need more phone lines and computers, more and more people are following the race and the riders can be forgotten about in all the razzmatazz, but its still the biggest sporting event in the world, long may in run!

The Popularity Of Gas RC Cars

radio controled

What if I told you that you could be in the driver's seat of a fully loaded Porsche, BMW, Mercedes, Volvo or professional race car? And what if I told you that it would only cost you a few hundred dollars? Would you believe me? Probably not, but the truth is that any one of these cars can be yours for a fraction of the cost and on a smaller scale of these popular sports cars when you buy gas remote control cars.

Remote control cars are not new. We all remember the cars we grew up playing with. These cars usually were attached to the control pad by wires and topped out at a few mph. Not so today. Advanced technology has led to the production of exact replicas of the most desired cars and the creation of a fascinating hobby which include these gas remote control cars.

The popularity of gas remote control cars has led to the formation of clubs and associations dedicated to a certain type or scale car or for remote control cars in general. Believe it or not, there are also speedways and racetracks dedicated to remote control car racing. Many even sponsor races complete with a winner's circle and trophy. Now that's taking play to a whole new level.

Imagine being the owner of a GTR Racer fully equipped and identical to the ones used in professional races, but on a 1/8 scale. This gas powered remote control car reaches amazing speeds that top out over 70 mph, and this remote control car costs less than $600.

Or maybe you prefer Dragsters. Wouldn't you love to own a professional Dragster that can accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in under three seconds? And wouldn't it even be sweeter if you could customize your remote control Dragster with a custom paint job and fully functional spoiler? You can, and it doesn't cost a whole lot either. These gas remote control cars are priced at just over $300.

If you prefer something a little more sensible or maybe even an off-road remote control car, you can find that also. There is practically no end to the options associated with gas remote control cars.

Are you looking for a family activity? Remote control cars could be just the thing you're looking for. Remote control car racing attracts people of many different personalities and ages. It could be that your family might appreciate one of these gas powered wonders.

The Physical Challenge Of Hockey

hockey

Hockey is one of the most physically demanding games known to man. This intense sport requires that a skater have as much strategy and skill as football or baseball player in addition to the strength that only a conditioned athlete can bring to the ice, and a kind of ferocity that is a rare quality indeed. Hockey players must tolerate quite a bit of pain and discomfort, and serious players must be able and willing to participate in very heavy training all through the year to remain competitive. Unlike many sports that primarily require endurance, Hockey is all about sudden short bursts of extremely intense activity. This makes hockey a very different kind of physical challenge than a sport like soccer where movement is lower-intensity but continuous.

A hockey player must be able to rev their personal engine from zero to sixty in a matter of seconds. At the pro level, a hockey player rarely spends more than a full minute at a time actively skating on the ice. Between those brief flurries of almost manic activity, a player can recover and catch his or her breath, but must remain alert and in readiness for the next explosion of action on the ice. Suddenly jumping from a fairly passive and relaxed state to the height of speed and power isn’t easy. The discipline and talent a hockey player must posses in order to do this well are often a large part of what separates the amateurs from the professionals.

The need to be able to swiftly transition from a state of rest to one of peak activity requires specific forms of training that focus on shortening response times and achieving graceful and efficient movement without much of a warm up. A hockey skater’s workout regimen contains many predictable activities like lifting weights and jogging, but one place where many players go in order to improve their agility and response time proves to be somewhat surprising to many sports fans.

Although classical music and pink tulle are the last things most people associate with the rough and tumble sport of hockey, many players train at ballet studios. From young boys and girls who are in amateur junior leagues all the way up to Olympic-level hockey players, spending time refining plies at the ballet barre often proves to give skaters a leg up on the ice.

From dance studios to weight rooms to jogging tracks, a hockey player must train his or her body in a variety of ways to prepare for what many consider the most physically demanding of all sports. Between the strenuous flurries of activity, the psychological stress of performance, the lack of warm up time, and the bulky padding of a hockey uniform, a player at the top level of competitive hockey may sweat away up to eight pounds of water weight during the course of a single game. There is no other sport where this kind of drastic weight loss due to exertion happens so quickly. A hockey player’s body must be prepared to safely weather this kind of ordeal on a regular basis, which requires a level of physical fitness that few other sports require.

The Proper Care Of Sports Cards

We have all heard with heavy hearts the stories about how our great grandfather carried around a Honus Wagner Card in his back pocket until the corners wore off and his mother threw it away when she did the laundry, or how our father put a Mickey Mantle in the spokes of his bicycle wheel, just to hear it click as he sped down the street. The fact that a Honus Wagner recently sold for $600,000 makes you cringe at Great Grandpa’s carelessness and wonder just what you would have done with all that money, but in reality it should make you think about what you are doing to protect the Mickey Mantle and Honus Wagner cards of this generation.

There are certain players in any sport that command the world’s attention even before their rookie season begins. When a player of this caliber is about to begin their career in professional sports, people snap up their cards and try to keep them pristine. While this is a smart move, all sports cards should be carefully stored, because you never know what the future holds for any player. Even notoriety outside the playing field can generate interest in a player and make the value of their cards go up. Wouldn’t you hate to have your grandkids shaking their heads in disbelief because you let the Mickey Mantle of your day slip away?

Even if you don’t put your favorite sports cards in between the spokes of your bike wheels, improper storage of your cards will cause them to deteriorate over time and when cards deteriorate they go down in value. In today’s world, cards are much more than the prize you get with a stick of gum. Serious collectors consider sports cards to be an investment and it is important to protect your investment with proper storage.

Cards can be stored in one of two ways. They can be stored so that they are protected but still able to be viewed and enjoyed or they can be stored away archive style. Which way you choose to store your cards really depends on how often you are interested in looking at them and whether or not you want to take them out of their original packaging.

While the days of throwing your cards into a cardboard box are long gone, archive boxes are modeled after the shoeboxes of yesteryear. These special boxes are made to hold specific numbers of cards, ranging from 250 to 1000. Unlike traditional shoe boxes, these cases are sectioned off into compartments that are made to each hold a specific amount of cards or card packs. Whole unopened packs of cards can easily be stored in these boxes that keep dust and light away from your cards. These boxes are usually marked with the number of cards they can hold so that one glance at the box on the shelf should tell you how many cards a full box contains. If you don’t have enough cards to fill the box, you need to pack the cards you do have tight, using the foam jam pads that wedge into the empty spaces.

Another popular way to store cards is in plastic coverings. You can buy plastic cases for each individual card or you can buy binders that hold plastic sleeves which display several cards to a page. The plastic on these specially designed holders never contains PVC’s because as polyvinalchlorides break down they produce gases that can cause your cards to deteriorate. These plastic cases are also UV protected so that the sun can’t do damage to your cards. The biggest thing that these covers protect your cards from is you. The acids on your fingers can do more damage to your cards than you realize.

It doesn’t really matter which system you choose to protect your favorite sports cards, as long as you do something to protect them. Just make sure that as you make the effort to protect your cards, you take time to enjoy them as well. Great Grandpa may not have been the best keeper of his Honus Wagner, but you can be sure he enjoyed owning it.

The Psychology Of Fear And The Science Of Poker

fear and anxiety

In the world of poker, appearances can often mean the difference between a winning hand and a losing hand. When bluffing, some people attempt to appear supremely confident to offset the fact that their hands are “junk.” This has the effect of discouraging other players from challenging you for ownership of the pot. However, there are others that prefer to use fear and anxiety as their weapons, coldly intimidating their fellow players into abandoning their positions of strength. There is a deep element of psychology whenever someone bluffs at the poker table. There can sometimes be an even deeper element of fear and anxiety behind the bluff, both for the one doing the bluffing and for those being targeted.

Some people claim they can practically smell the anxiety coming off someone who has gotten suckered into a good bluff. For some players, fear and anxiety are ideal tools in bluffing, as it plays upon some of the oldest instincts in the human psyche. When gripped by anxiety, people tend to lose their ability to objectively and clearly evaluate a situation and make good decisions. As any poker professional will tell you, the inability to analyze the situation before you is a bad situation for a poker player. Combine this with the stress of a high-risk pot and an imposing opponent and most less-experienced players will likely crack under pressure. As with all poker strategies, there are several ways to accomplish instilling fear and anxiety into your opponents during a game.

The most common method used to inspire fear and anxiety is by establishing a “reputation” or an “image.” This technique can either be long-term or short-term, though most players try to make use of both approaches. The short-term technique is to present yourself as being a dangerous player at the table you're currently playing at. This can involve consistently raising and calling, even when the odds might appear to be against you. Presenting yourself as an aggressive player can make your opponents unwilling to risk going against your calls, particularly if you've been winning most of the hands played. Other ways this can be done is through presenting an imposing physical presence, as appearances can often play a large part in how a poker player “reads” someone.

For the long-term, fear and anxiety can be instilled through the use of one's reputation or record. This method is significantly more subtle, as this relies on simply making the most of what the other players think of your poker game. For example, a player with a reputation for having a tight game can suddenly play with extreme and almost reckless aggression. This has the effect of catching other players off-guard and, while they're adjusting their strategies to cope, you can choose to keep up the aggression or drop into a defensive stance once you've managed to get a sizable number of chips.

Psychology can also play a role in deciding which strategies to employ at a poker table. According to some theorists, poker mechanics tend to favor people who are analytical and self-analytical, mainly because knowing one's strengths and weaknesses is crucial to successful poker play. Thus, a person who is able to understand his own psychological tendencies can typically be better equipped to deal with the high levels of stress involved in analyzing and re-analyzing people over the course of a game.

The Purpose Of An Outdoor Fireplace

fireplaces

Everyone has been exposed to the benefits of an indoor fireplace, including the heat and the sense of romance that is generated. Nothing is more soothing on a cold winter’s night that sitting with your feet propped up, huddled next to that special person, in front of a roaring fireplace. Why not enjoy the same effects in your backyard? Certainly, a grill is nice, but it doesn’t compare to the feeling that is generated by food that is cooked over an open fireplace or fire pit.

An outdoor fireplace makes a nice addition to anyone’s backyard and is certainly better for large groups of people than a barbeque grill. Additionally, the installation of a fire pit can add tremendous value to the price of your home when you are ready to sell it as well as giving it a quick selling feature.

Nothing keeps mosquitoes and other flying insects away quicker than fire. A grill will not stay lit for the entire course of an evening, however, an outdoor fireplace will stay hot for some time, and the fumes from the fire can help repel the flying insects that want to invade the tranquility of your relaxing evening in the back yard. With an outdoor fireplace, you can sit on your patio as long as you want and not have to worry about being bothered incessantly by flying insects.

You think of warmth when you think of an indoor fireplace, but an outdoor fireplace can provide the same warmth as you sit outside on a cool evening. As you enjoy the first breezes of spring or the last breezes of summer, the evening may tend to be a little on the chilly side. Instead of having to go inside when even a sweater or light jacket fail to keep you warm, sit by the heat or the outdoor fireplace and enjoy a little more of the outdoors. The fresh and crisp evening air will help relax you so that you will be able to enjoy a better night’s sleep.

These are only a few of the reasons for buying or building an outdoor fireplace, but it certainly leads to the conclusion that it can create a very versatile atmosphere for entertaining. While thinking of the many reasons you might want an outdoor fireplace, do not overlook the fact that there are safety precautions that you must take in order to protect your home. It is not a grill, and it gets quite hot. It’s important to make sure the outdoor fireplace is at least ten feet away from your home and any other combustibles such as a wood deck. Also, make sure that the fire is out before you retire for the night. You want to enjoy it for evenings on the terrace, but you don’t want to throw caution to the wind at the expense of your home and family.

An outdoor fireplace can be a nice addition to your property, and it can enhance the quality of your entertaining. Be prepared, though, to find some uninvited guests dropping in just because they love the smell of the cooking over the fire pit that permeates throughout the neighborhood. As long as you don’t mind extra guests, you’ll love the outdoor fireplace.

The Real Secret To Quickly Buying An Electric Scooter

electric scooters

If this doesn’t get you excited, then nothing will! Electric scooters can be bought for sometimes as much as 50% off if you can be just a little patient and know where to look. Electric scooters are incredibly fun these days, and they’ve seemed to have taken the world by storm. I see several of them all the time riding up and down my street here in Houston, and I’ve read that they are popular in many European countries.

What a lot of people don’t know is that there is a way to get your new electric scooter a discount using an old tactic in a slightly new way. It’s called price comparison (and a little bit patience). Yes, this is an old tactic, but it still works. And it works really well. The internet makes it really easy to do this as long as you put in just a little leg work. Here’s how I would go about looking for a new electric scooter.

1) Start at Froogle.com. This is Google’s shopping search engine where you can look for whatever it is you need. Try searching for ‘electric scooter,’ ‘electric scooter sale’ or even ‘electric scooter discount.’ This should yield an impressive number of electric scooter retailer competing for your business. Write down the best prices and deal you see.

2) Run the same searches on regular Google.com. Pay attention to the right hand side ads. Generally, the right hand side ads are ‘sponsored ads’ which vendors pay a lot of money (often over $1/click) to place their ads on the right hand side of the results for certain keyword they bid on in a sort of virtual keyword auction. Visit some sites and write down the best deals you see here.

3) Run the same searches on Yahoo.com. Pay attention to the right hand side sponsored ads. Yahoo owns Overture which handles their pay-per-click business. Often you will find different vendors advertising on Yahoo than Google. You want to compare as many different electric scooter companies as possible. They more the bestter. This is why it is worth visiting Yahoo, not just Google. Visit some sites and write down the best deals you see here.

4) Now visit Ebay and run a search for ‘electric scooter’ and ‘electric scooters.’ Write down the results and watch some auctions for a week or so. Write down the prices you see things being sold for. You can usually press the ‘watch this auction’ in MyEbay as a sort of bookmark so you can watch all the sales that happen for particular items.

5) Come back in 2 weeks and do it all over again. At the end of this you will be able to know that you’ve done a lot of research and you will know where the best deals are.

Overall, I wouldn’t be surprised if you could save more than 50% on a new electric scooter doing this. After all, you did the work: you are entitled to getting paid for it. There are more tricks than this, and this isn’t all of it. But it’s a start to getting you your new electric scooter.

The Right Equipment For A New Baseball Player

baseball drills

If you are serious about your young person playing the baseball and really appreciating it, then you need the right equipment. Nothing There more frustrating with a child that to make the study with the field with a glove it is difficult like rock and difficult to break that inside.

You want to obtain a glove which the child can immediately use with success. If the child cannot correctly operate the glove and catch the ball, they can become discouraged and give up the sport before they obtain really started.

There are gloves on the market particularly designed for these kids who take their baseball seriously. You will want a glove made starting from flexible leather, thus it is easy to break the glove inside. Another flexible leather advantage is the ball will remain in the glove, with the difference of the gloves made starting from plastic fabric which make it possible the ball to too easily escape all.

Two innovations in the design of glove are incorporated in several of these gloves on the market. There is a design of three fingers per hall of shortstop Ozzie Smith of fame. The other single design is a mitten of gloves of baseball of youth by hall of glove of baseball Gary Charretier of fame.

The design of three fingers allows the rosâtre, ring and the average fingers with being in the same large finger fix. This arrangement makes it possible balls to be easily bailed out and facilitates closing the glove.

The mitten of the single catcher is an hybrid of a first mitten of basemans and traditional mitten of gloves of baseball. With more surface to catch the ball plus the additional filling where you need it, the young attrapeurs will find this glove very easy to employ. The hand of young people will be protected and they will test less 'sting '. moreover incorporated in this design is a well defined pocket which makes it possible the ball to easily remain in the glove once that it was caught.

The measurement of quality in a glove is the material which it is made leave and the design for the serious players of ball of youth and is detail of age. Gloves of high quality are made with the steerhide or a combination of the steerhide and leather flexable thin used on the back of the glove which marks it light, durable and easy to break inside. These types of gloves are typically wrought hand for high quality the serious request players. Many gloves of good quality also incorporate a system of belt of wrist of Velcro, making it possible to the player to adjust the belt of wrist on Juste the good size.

The gloves of youth come in various faces, for example, and glove of 11.5 inches. This measurement is supposed to indicate the overall length of the glove. However, there in aucuns standard and you can note that a glove of 11.5 inches of a manufacturer is different from the different one.

The typical sizes are 10.5 inches, 11 inches, 11.25 inches and 11.5 inches. There'of S much really not of difference in the gloves. A good guiding principle is for the word that the six years old a glove of 10.5 inches would be good while the 11 years old of the 11.25 or 11.5 would be good.

There are gloves of adult which are 11.5 inches length, however, the difference if the glove of adult will be much wider to adapt to larger hands. You ensure that you obtain a glove of youth, because the size of adult will be too large distance.

Intend to spend approximately $35-$70 for a glove of the youth of good quality less and you can be disappointed, more and you probably went over edge.

The Rise of Snow Boarding

skiing tips

Everyone has surely noticed the way that snow boarding has been rising and rising in terms of popularity in recent years, and I am sure that it is not just me that's noticed. In the last decade snow boarding has went from skateboarding on snow, to the Olympics quicker than you one could ever imagine.

Firstly snow boarding started when the little known Sherman Poppen decided to nail kid's skis together in an attempt to improve their skating skills. This was just the start, as Sherman noticed the economic potential of this he decided to go about getting them into production. Millions of dollars and thousands of happy boarders later, Sherman will always be remembered for bringing snow boarding to the masses.

The first official competition took place in 1982 and since then snow boarding has seen more and more competitions take place. As the competitions started to spread, snow boarding changed from a hobby to a professional sport, that requires skill and agility in equal measure.

The biggest achievement for snow boarding occurred in 1998 when snow boarding made it to the winter Olympics. Held in Nagano Japan, the sport was given more than its fair share of coverage. The sport was watched by so many people that have never seen the sport before. The sale of snow boarding and snow boarding equipment was said to has risen by 47% following its appearance in the televisions of millions around the world. As the amount of competition rose, and as the amount of boarders rose in more than equal measure the standards within the sport became phenomenal. The kind of things that people are doing these days weren't even heard of 10 years ago.

The rise of snow boarding has not just been a result of competition. It is also because it fits under the category of a fun, exciting sport and more importantly: a sport that can be done freestyle! Making appearances on TV alongside motor cross, skateboarding, and skate boarding snow boarding has also been aided by the personalities that have come through the sport. The fact is that skiing doesn't have the cool look that snow boarding has. Surely you know what I mean? The skier looks to rigid, and just doesn't have the relaxed, in control look that makes snow boarders 100 times cooler.

So you are probably wondering why I got into snow boarding? The reason really is very simple indeed. My friends and me were always skate boarders, but I also liked other things like roller skating and skating even riding a BMX. The truth is I just loved anything that made me move on wheels. However, when I seen skiing I always thought it looked plain dumb. I did not want to move around with two big planks of wood attached to my legs. But then I started to notice and hear a lot more about snow boarding everywhere I went. For a start, it was appearing more on TV and in the kind of magazines that I bought. Then I thought that if I tried it then I would already have some of the skills that I would need from the fact that I was already able to do skate boarding. So me and my friends decided that we would book up a lesson, and give it a shot. Why not I thought?

However folks, if you are really in to skate boarding and you think that's fun, then you really have not experienced any real fun yet. DO you know that feeling from skate boarding when you are going down a road that has zero bumps? The fact that you almost glide through the air. That is what snow boarding is like every single step of the way and that is why I love it so much. If you ever decide to give it a shot then I am sure you will do it time, after time again.
